New Club Structure Announced

Charlotte United FC is excited to announce our new structure focused on enhancing the programs and services provided to our valued players and their families. United continues to raise the bar as the Family Club!

Improved Organizational Structure, Experience Matters

Effective immediately, Charlotte United will be structured as follows:

Challenge: In addition to managing our Harris Y, Morrison Y, Park Sharon and Speed Challenge programs, Bryan Mogford will have the added oversight of Mint Hill, Monroe and University City Y as well as coordination oversight over all other Challenge teams. CUFC North (John Pietak), Hellenic Park (Vance & Sean Carlisle) & The Palisades (Kevin Sephton) will continue to be led by their respective leaders. Bryan has his USSF “A” & UEFA “A” licenses.

U11 – U12 Classic Boys & Girls: These ages will continue to be led by Ray Fumo who has done an exceptional job in his first year with United. Classic teams run out of CUFC North, Hellenic Park and The Palisades will continue to be managed and run through those leaders. Ray has his NSCAA Advanced National coaching badge and a BA in both Economics & Management from UNC-Chapel Hill.

U13 – 15 Classic Boys & Girls: These ages will now be led by Grant Porter who, like Ray, has done an outstanding job in his short tenure with the club. Classic teams run out of The Palisades will continue to be managed by Kevin Sephton. Grant has his USSF “A” license, a BA in Economics from UNC-Chapel Hill and MA in Sports Administration from Georgia State University.

U16 – U18 Classic Girls: This group will now be led by Ian Dennis, who has been with the United family for years as a coach and Board member. Ian comes with a wealth of experience both on and off the field, bringing structure and a customer centric ideology to the fold. Classic teams run out of The Palisades will continue to be managed by Kevin Sephton. Ian earned his USSF ‘A’ license & the USSF “Bob McNulty Award” for his commitment to teaching the game. He previously served as Charlotte United’s first girls’ program director from 1997-2002.

U16 – 18 Classic Boys: This group will be led by Michael Magno, who has also been instrumental in the United family for many years. Michael is an exceptional communicator, who has proven success as a coach and in assisting those interested in playing soccer at the college level. Michael holds his USSF “A” license and a MA in Education.

Additional Staffing:

  • The Palisades: Kevin Sephton will run this location for United. Kevin has been instrumental in the development of the fields at The Palisades and in having oversight for many of our key relationships with locations like CUFC North, Hellenic Park, Mint Hill & Monroe. Kevin has earned his USSF “A” license.
  • Hellenic Park: Vance & Sean Carlisle will continue to develop both Challenge and Classic players at this highly successful location. Sean holds a USSF “D” license & NSCAA National Diploma.
  • CUFC North: John Pietak, with the assistance of Freddie Herrera, will continue to run and develop talented players at this new location. John has earned both his USSF National Youth License & USSF National D licenses, as well as having a MA in Education from Columbia International University.
  • Monroe: Duane Dyer & Bryan Ramoutar will continue to run this continually growing location. Duane has earned his NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma. Bryan has a variety of licenses, including: FIFA Youth Coach's Certificate; English FA International "Level 2" License; English FA "Level 3" Youth Player Psychology Certificate.
  • Business Operations: The day to day operation of running Charlotte United can be daunting. Neil Orridge will continue to manage sponsorship programs, fundraising efforts, financial assistance and our very successful tournaments. Further, Neil will add management of the Charlotte United office, along with the Charlotte United Store, uniform ordering, etc.
  • Support Services: Marykay King and her faithful team will continue to liaison with the NCYSA, perform Registrar functions, assisting team managers and have bookkeeping responsibilities.

Further, Rob Dalton and Vic Johnson, both integral in the growth of United over the years, are pursuing other opportunities outside of Charlotte United. We wish them well in their future endeavors.

Bill Finneyfrock, Executive Director, states “Our new organizational structure, coupled with the promotion of key staff, will enable us to better focus on providing highly effective player development programs, while delivering even higher levels of customer service to our valued families.”

“While saddened by the departure of Rob and Vic, I am especially excited to add both Ian and Michael to our list of highly qualified, customer centric Directors of Coaching. The mix of youth in Grant and Ray, with deep experience with Bryan, Ian, Kevin, Michael and others, will allow us to drive our programs and services to new heights. Further, all of them are exceptionally focused on making sure our players and families are enjoying their experience with Charlotte United.”
