The Harris Y U11 Kilmarnock team, along with local classic and challenge teams, switched gears and participated in a winter indoor league. The Killies continued their regular season success by denying opponents the opportunity to score throughout the indoor season. The fast paced game strengthened their skills and scoring ability leading to a 35 goal differential over the opposition. Outstanding goalkeeping, tremendous defense and prolific scoring enabled the Killies to capture first place during a stellar indoor season.
The season was capped with a tournament of the top four teams vying for an overall champion. During the semifinals the girls took on the CUFC White Cobras. The girls scored within 90 seconds of regulation play and quickly created a 4 goal lead. Well-executed play and teamwork lead to a convincing 7-1 win. The girls moved on to the Championship to play the CSA Copa Girls. Copa opened the scoring, benefiting from a wall deflection midway through the first half. After numerous opportunities the Killies tied the score with a well-placed shot early in the second half. Both teams battled hard only to have regulation play end with a 1-1 tie. Two players from each team were removed from the field for a 3 minute 4v4 sudden death overtime period. After intense play, the match remained tied. With field play over, the match winner would be determined by a sudden death penalty kick format. The Killies quickly capitalized and ended the penalty kicks 1-0 giving them a well-deserved Championship.
Congratulations on your success Killies!
